Acne supplements
Acne is an inflammatory disease that cannot be treated alone. Many a times along with medications, supplements are provided. Below is given a list of supplements that work best for acne treatment.
Alpha-linolenic acid or ALA : It is an omega-3 fatty acid and it helps in reducing inflammation. It is found in Flaxseed. Though there is little evidence to prove its benefits, most acne solution providers believe that flaxseed is a good cure for acne. Flaxseed oil is derived from flaxseed plant. It contains 50-60% of omega 3 fatty acids, which is double the rate found in fish oil.
Arnica: It has been in use for medical purposes since medieval periods. Arnica in herbal form is available in topical applications like creams and lotions. It is also used in homeopathic medicines in treatment of acne. It has properties for healing of skin and reducing inflammation and this is the reason why it is used for acne treatment.
Burdock: It is a traditional blood purifier that has been in use in medicines in China , Japan and Europe since long. It is a popular topical remedy for conditions of acne and for strengthening the body.
German chamomile: It was the preferred mode of herb used by Egyptians, Romans and Greeks. It is primarily used to treat skin disorders. Research has proved it to be a very effective cure against acne. It calms down skin irritations and controls infections caused by acne. It has antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties. Most commonly, it is available in the form of capsules and ointment.
Lavender : Aromatherapy has wide use of lavender. Herbalists treat aliments like acne with the help of lavender. Lavender oil has found to be of good use in improving dry, scaly skin lesions. Besides oil, it is available in the form of lotion, soaps and tinctures. Its oral use for children is not recommended.
Omega 6 fatty acids: They are very essential for hair and skin growth and regular metabolism. It is mostly found in sunflower oil, safflower, corn, cottonseed and soybean oils, eggs, meat etc. It is generally held that corn oil proves beneficial for treatment of acne by replenishing the low levels of linoleic acid in lesions.
Selenium: It works as an antioxidants and destroys free radicals in the body and therefore it is best used for treatment of acne. It is found in whole unprocessed foods like, whole grains, wheat germ and butter. It can be taken as an individual supplement or as part of vitamin-mineral supplement or in an antioxidant preparation.
Vitamin A (Retinol): It is essential for a healthy skin especially the mucous membranes that line the nose, sinuses and mouth. Topical and oral preparations containing it have shown great benefits in treatment of acne. Naturally it can be found in dairy products and eggs.

Vitamin B3 (Niacin): It is a water-soluble vitamin and is essential for maintaining the health of skin and hairs. Niacin plays an important role in detoxification of body. It is available in capsule format.
